“A church exists for the benefit of nonmembers”
“Jesus’ teaching consistently attracted the irreligious while offending the Bible-believing, religious people of His day. However, our churches today do not have this effect. The kind of outsiders Jesus attracted do not bother coming to our churches, even our most avant-garde ones. We tend to draw button-down, moralistic people. The licentious and liberated or the broken and marginal avoid church. That can only mean one thing. If the preaching of our ministers and the practice of our parishioners do not have the same effect on people that Jesus had, then we must not be declaring the same message that Jesus did.” + Tim Keller
“It is when the church gives itself away in radical acts of service and compassion, expecting nothing in return, that the way of Jesus is most vividly put on display.”
On September 9th, 2012 we begin a new chapter in the life of our church (we “officially” go public). We will kickoff a new teaching series entitled “why church?”
A simple, powerful & fitting question not only for our community, but for our city.
We hope to articulate a biblical vision for what a community of faith, hope, and love looks like in our city.
Check back here at weeks end for a deeper overview of the series, week to week topic explanations, key bible passages we will be focusing on, kids resources, video, and other study materials.
Consider joining us as we begin a new church in Providence.
